The AVMA and Soundprints, a publisher of educational children's books, have added two new titles to the "Pet Tales" storybook series.
"Winston in the City" features an apartment-dwelling Dachshund in New York and "Daisy on the Farm" is about a curious pony and her young companion Clare. Launched last fall, the pet stories are targeted to children in preschool to second grade and are approved for Accelerated Reader programs. Each of the eight titles includes information about the AVMA and AVMA-approved pet health tips to increase the Association's public visibility.
Since last September, more than 8,000 storybooks, each packaged with a plush toy representing the main character, have been sold to parents, teachers, and librarians nationwide through retail stores and the Soundprints catalogs. AVMA members can purchase the books directly from Soundprints at 42 percent off the regular retail price with a portion of every sale returned to the AVMA (see information on page 295). Plans call for a new "Pet Tales" story to be introduced each spring and fall over the next three years.
