Adrian Hochstadt, JD, CAE, joined the AVMA Communications Division as the assistant director of state legislative and regulatory affairs March 16.

Hochstadt will direct the Association's efforts to assist constituent organizations in managing the legislative and regulatory initiatives they face.

"I look forward to exploring the needs of each of the constituent organizations and finding out how I can be of value to their efforts," Hochstadt said. "Their input is crucial to AVMA as we continue to develop effective advocacy resources."

With 15 years experience in managing government affairs programs, Hochstadt came to the AVMA from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, a leading health care organization.

Hochstadt played a key role in achieving recognition of the AAAHC's accreditation program in 15 states. Additionally, he was actively involved in the association's ongoing review and update of its health care standards.

Previously, Hochstadt managed the state and federal government affairs program of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. While there, he was instrumental in convincing 19 state legislatures to guarantee insurance coverage for breast cancer victims undergoing reconstructive procedures.

"The Communications Division is thrilled to have Adrian on-board," said Communications Director J.B. Hancock. "We are confident that he will enhance the value of the Association to its members and constituent associations."

Hochstadt earned his law degree and admission to the Illinois bar in 1985 and received his certified association executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives in 1999.

"I am confident that together, we can build a top-notch program to educate state legislators and regulators about veterinary medicine, our issues, and the importance of our issues to the health of both people and animals," Hochstadt said.
