The American Association of Avian Pathologists has joined forces with the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization Inc. Formed in July 2004, PAACO promotes the humane treatment of animals through education and certification of animal auditors.
Based in Savoy, Ill., PAACO was founded by the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, American Association of Swine Veterinarians, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, and the Federation of Animal Science Societies.
"Having AAAP as an active member of the organization will bring the additional poultry knowledge and expertise that is needed," said Dr. Angela K. Baysinger, PAACO's chair. She noted PAACO is the first certification auditing organization within animal agriculture.
PAACO held its first meeting in St. Louis in July 2004. The board of directors then met in Kansas City, Mo., in January 2005. The next meeting is scheduled for July.
