The Executive Board has approved revisions to the Basic Guidelines of Judicious Therapeutic Use of Antimicrobials in Pork Production.

In reviewing the guidelines, as part of a five-year review, the AVMA Steering Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance sought the input of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians. The SCAR reviewed and accepted the changes made by the AASV in most cases, slightly editing some of them.

Many of the changes reflect a name change from the American Association of Swine Practitioners to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians, and a splitting of the National Pork Producers Council and the National Pork Board that was necessitated by a court order. Other changes emphasize biosecurity, provide clarification, or are editorial.
