Dr. Roger Mahr, vice chair of the Executive Board and District VI board member

A recommendation to survey the public's perception of veterinarians was referred to the Task Force on Communications for consideration.

The Council on Publications Relations had proposed the Executive Board approve development and execution of a survey to gauge public perceptions of veterinarians and the potential effect current and future issues may have on those perceptions.

Board members instead approved a recommendation from AVMA President Jack O. Walther to refer the survey to the communications task force established by the board this April (see JAVMA, June 1, 2004, page 1728).

The task force is charged with identifying components of an effective communications program that enhances the profession's reputation and makes the public think first of veterinarians on any subject involving animals and animal welfare.
