Resolution 6: PR campaign referred for planning

Posted Aug. 15, 2003

Resolution 6, submitted by five constituent associations, called on the AVMA to allocate $50,000 in funds and resources for a public relations campaign that emphasizes the crucial role of veterinarians in homeland security, including food safety, public health, and biosecurity.

The HOD referred the resolution to the Council on Public Relations, as recommended by the Reference Committee on Public Matters (Reference Committee 2), so the council can develop an outcome-based public relations program that would include cost estimates; the plan would then be submitted to the Executive Board for consideration. The board had recommended disapproval of the resolution, and the House Advisory Committee had recommended referral back to the sponsors for clarification of the scope and financial impact.

The Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia veterinary medical associations and the National Association of Federal Veterinarians submitted Resolution 6.
