ECFVG, PAVE BOARD REPRESENTATIVES FORWARD TWO RECOMMENDATIONS

Drs. Donald Draper and Susan Chadima, chairs of the respective groups, served as co-chairs for the meeting. The co-chairs emphasized the cooperative spirit and focus of the participants. Other representatives were Drs. Deborah Kochevar and Wallace Baze from the ECFVG and Drs. Ralph Richardson and Janvier Krehbiel from the PAVE Board. The representatives from both groups have forwarded two recommendations for consideration by the governing bodies of the AVMA and the American Association of Veterinary State Boards, the parent organizations of the ECFVG and PAVE Board, respectively. A full report of the meeting will be distributed within several weeks. The first recommendation is for a second meeting of the six representatives to be held in Philadelphia to hear stakeholder viewpoints on the potential establishment of an independent entity. The second recommendation seeks authorization for the representatives to consult with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and its legal counsel, or other independent legal counsel, to solicit additional expertise on this matter. Three representatives each from the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates and the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence Board met in St. Louis on Feb. 1-2 to explore the possibilities of establishing an independent, single educational equivalency program for graduates of nonaccredited veterinary colleges.
