Posted Feb. 1, 2003

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation welcomes nominations for two American Kennel Club awards—the Career Achievement Award in Canine Research and the Excellence in Research Award. Nominations must be received by March 1, 2003.

One AKC Career Achievement Award in Canine Research will be given. The honoree will receive the award during the AVMA Annual Convention. It consists of a $5,000 cash award, round-trip airfare to the convention, $400 in expenses, and a Tiffany crystal sculpture.

Up to three AKC Excellence in Research Awards will be presented. The award will recognize individuals who demonstrate "breaking significant achievements" in a specific area of canine research. Recipients will present their award-winning work at a major veterinary meeting. Each recipient will be provided with a $500 cash prize, round-trip airfare to the site of the presentation, and $400 in expenses.

Nominations must include four copies of a one-page, single-spaced summary of research accomplishments, a letter of nomination, and a curriculum vita. Nominees must be AVMA members. Self-nominations will not be considered. The AVMA Council on Research will select the recipients. Nomination packets should be sent to the AVMA, Attn.: 2003 Research Awards, 1931 N. Meacham Road, Suite 100, Schaumburg, IL 60173-4360; (800) 248-2862, Ext. 6686.
