Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, will be the setting for the Second International Conference on Transportation of Horses by Road, Sea, and Air. Conference dates are July 11-13, 2003.

Horse welfare during transport will be the focus of the conference. A concurrent satellite research meeting is also scheduled. Investigators with original data are invited to submit an abstract to the organizing committee for scientific review. The deadline for receipt of abstracts has been extended to Feb. 17, 2003.

The UK's leading international equine welfare charity, the International League for the Protection of Horses, is the primary organizer, on behalf of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Federation Equestre Internationale.

The conference will build on an equine transport workshop the MSPCA sponsored in 1999 in Virginia and on earlier research into transport stress in horses initiated by the FEI and ILPH.
