2012-2013 Future Leaders Class

The second class of AVMA Future Leaders completed their yearlong program at the AVMA Annual Meeting in Chicago in July 2013. Like the first-year class, these Future Leaders were identified as being leaders with potential to blaze a path long into the future for our profession. One of the key components for this group’s yearlong program was to tackle a project as a team, as a means for the Future Leaders to enhance their individual teambuilding skills while also developing tangible resources for our members to use.

For their team project, the Future Leaders identified cultural competency as a critical topic, and they created relevant cultural competency resources for AVMA members to use. The cultural competency resources this group developed will soon be found on the AVMA’s Diversity and Inclusion website, since being culturally competent in practice goes hand in hand with the value of having an inclusive, diverse environment for the veterinary workforce and for our clients.

Additional information can also be found in AVMA's press release when the Future Leaders were named, as well as a video of these Future Leaders introducing themselves.
