The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) officially launched its Future Leaders Program in July 2011 by announcing the 10 veterinarians chosen to take part in the program during its inaugural year.
The year-long Future Leaders Program, created by the AVMA with support from Pfizer Animal Health, develops volunteer leaders for the AVMA and other organized veterinary groups, helping participants develop leadership and problem-solving skills related to organized veterinary medicine. As part of the program, each group takes on a project that brings them together as a team to develop resources for other veterinarians. The inaugural Future Leaders class chose as its team project the creation of a toolkit to help veterinarians learn about leadership and hone their personal leadership skills.
