2011 Executive Director Orientation Participants
On September 26-27, 2011 AVMA staff welcomed executives of six veterinary medical associations to an orientation at the AVMA headquarters. This was the 8th time the orientation program was presented to executive directors of organizations represented in the AVMA House of Delegates. This year the group included representatives of two state associations, two allied VMAs and executives representing DC and Chicago VMAs.
During the 1-1/2 day program, attendees learned about the AVMA structure and the major activities of each AVMA division through staff presentations and informal networking opportunities. Many of the directors said they had no idea of the variety of resources AVMA has available to help them in their association work, while others were surprised at the scope of projects managed by the AVMA staff.
Participants indicated that they gained a lot of useful information and awareness of what the AVMA has to offer. They appreciated learning the appropriate contacts at AVMA and said that their time was well spent.
The AVMA offers the orientation program every two years for new executives, with the next program scheduled for 2013.
