State and allied VMAs can enhance their Facebook Fan pages and help veterinary medicine contact Congress all at the same time. The AVMA-CAN has deployed a government action center on the AVMA Facebook page that allows sending messages to elected officials without leaving Facebook. You can see this page at www.facebook.com/avmacan by clicking the Take Action tab. The application is similar to Capwiz and allows users to edit a letter to make it more personal.
DDC Advocacy, the company that developed this tool, is making it possible for state and allied VMAs to mirror this application on their Facebook fan pages. Note that the application works on Fan pages and not Group pages, which do not support the application's HTML code. Also, the page itself is simply a mirror and cannot be edited. State issues cannot be added to that page. Information gathered from participants would come to AVMA-CAN.
At the moment, the advocacy message is asking for co-sponsors for the Veterinarian Services Investment Act (VSIA), although the issues will change.
Any VMA interested in mirroring this application should contact Stephanie Fisher, Grassroots Coordinator, AVMA Governmental Relations Division, phone: 202-289-3208.
