Current AVMA Entities Working on Animal Welfare and the Human-Animal Bond

Animal Welfare Committee

Activities of the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) are guided by the AVMA Animal Welfare Principles and are directed toward meeting the association's strategic goals and objectives for animal welfare as established by AVMA leadership.

Steering Committee on Human-Animal Interactions

Activities of the Steering Committee on Human-Animal Interactions (SCHAI) are guided by AVMA policy on the human-animal bond. 

In addition to these standing committees, the AVMA has a variety of other task forces and planning groups that are appointed and charged to work on specific issues. Currently these include the Panels on Euthanasia, Humane Slaughter and Depopulation with their associated species- and topic-specific working groups; the Model Animal Welfare Curriculum Planning Group; and The Conversation Working Group.
