2014 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Antimicrobial Therapy of Canine Superficial Bacterial Folliculitis

Comment on this policyThe AVMA supports the use of the 2014 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Antimicrobial Therapy of Canine Superficial Bacterial Folliculitis developed by the Antimicrobial Guidelines Working Group of the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases as a resource to improve antimicrobial stewardship in companion animal practice. Guidelines such as these should not be construed as dictating an exclusive course of treatment or procedure. Variations in practice may be warranted based on factors unique to the patient, client, or veterinary practice, in accordance with the best clinical judgment. Members should recognize that there may be variability in the availability and recommended use of certain antimicrobial drugs among countries. Therefore, any such guidelines should be reviewed by the issuing body at least every 5 years and updated as necessary.
