Accessing the Online Discussion Forum

Ready to start tapping into the vast wealth of information and advice that your AVMA and SAVMA colleagues have to offer? If so, then it’s time to start using the AVMA’s Online Discussion Forum. This is a private area on the AVMA website that is accessible only to AVMA and SAVMA members. Here’s how to get started using it:

1.    Go to AVMA.org and navigate to the Discussion Forum.

Accessing the Discussion Forum from the home page:

 
A.    Click the Discussion Forum link under “Community” in the right column of the page:


B.    Click either the View All Discussions link in the orange “Members are talking about…” bar or the link to Enter the AVMA Discussion Forum further down on the right.
 

 
NOTE: If you are not signed into the website, you will need to sign in at this point. To do so, use the Member ID number on your membership card or the address label of your journal, and your own website password. If you can’t remember your ID or Password, click on “Forgot your user ID or password?” and follow the instructions to have a reminder sent to you. Click the Remember Me checkbox to have the website remember you for the next 90 days, so you will not have to enter your sign-in information every time you return. Accessing the Discussion Forum from anywhere on the website:

A. Click on the Member Center link in the main navigation at the top of the website:
 

 
B. Click on Member Community & Networking in the left column:
 

 
C.    Click on the View All Discussions link in the orange “Members are talking about…” bar:

2.    Once you are signed in, you will be taken directly into the Online Discussion Forum:


3.    The discussions are organized into three groups, designated by purple section titles:
  • AVMA Central – Home to discussions about the AVMA, our programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • The Exam Room – Discussions related to clinical practice issues.
  • Outside the Exam Room – Discussions about other veterinary issues, ranging from animal welfare, to public health, to practice management and work-life balance.
4.    Click on any blue topic link in the left column to enter that discussion board to view the specific topics that already are under discussion and to create a new one if you have a new issue that you want to raise.
