Martha Smith-Blackmore is Vice President of Animal Welfare for the Animal Rescue League of Boston, a non-profit animal welfare organization in Boston, Massachusetts. She is chair-elect of the AVMA's Animal Welfare Committee, representing companion animal practice and the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV). A past president of the ASV, Dr. Smith-Blackmore is an author of the ASV's Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters and chapters on Foster Care and Euthanasia for the textbook "Shelter Medicine for Veterinarians and Staff," 2nd edition. She is a clinical assistant professor at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, teaching veterinary forensics, and she serves on the executive board of the American Heartworm Society.
