Douglas Aspros, DVMDouglas Aspros has been a companion animal practitioner in suburban Westchester County since graduating from Cornell University and a practice owner since 1983. He is a partner in two general practices, the managing partner of a group-owned emergency hospital, and proud to be a member of VMG-1. While attending Cornell, he worked for four years as a research assistant at the USDA’s Plant, Soil and Nutrition Laboratory (now the Holley Lab) in Ithaca, NY. Active in organized veterinary medicine and a former president of New York State Veterinary Medical Society, Dr. Aspros served for six years on the AVMA Council on Education, evaluating veterinary programs across the country and around the world, including programs in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and France. He was elected chair in 2005. From 2001-2006, he was the AVMA’s representative on the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and, for three years, a reviewer and writer for the National Veterinary Medical Licensing Examination (NVMLE). He represented District 1 on the AVMA Executive Board before being selected as President-Elect in 2011. Dr. Aspros served as President of the American Veterinary Medical Association during its 150th year. Committed to the role veterinarians should play in public health, he was appointed to the Westchester County Board of Health in 1985 and served as President of the Board from 1994 to 2013. He and his wife, Dee, live in Pound Ridge, NY with their Norfolk Terrier, two birds and one awesome cat.
