Dr. Johnson serves as Chair of the Board, National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy, Washington DC; Special Assistant to the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources at the University of Nevada, Reno, NV and CEO of Ag Conversions, Oak Creek Wisconsin. Prior to coming to Washington/Reno, he was the Vice Provost for Extension and Distinguished Professor of Economics at Iowa State University. He had also previously been Director for the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD) and as Executive Director for the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) at Iowa State University.
Dr. Johnson has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, authored 15 books and about 300 book chapters and technical reports. He is an internationally-known agricultural economist with considerable research and teaching experience in the USA and in many countries worldwide. His areas of interest include agricultural production and marketing, agricultural policy, international agricultural economics, natural resources, econometrics, and quantitative economics. He has taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level and has directed over 150 theses and dissertations. He is a Fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association and has received numerous awards and honors, including honorary doctorate degrees from universities and membership in national academies of science in several countries.
