Matt Holland graduated from Drake University with a B.A. in radio and television journalism in 2007, and was a freelance television producer for various media outlets in Chicago and New York City including Big Ten Network, Major League Baseball Network, and the Chicago Bears. He was drawn to spend his free time working with animals, and found that television production felt like existing, whereas, working with animals felt like living. He decided this passion should not be a hobby, but a career.
Now in his fourth year of veterinary school at University of Illinois, he serves as president of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA), while earning a Master of Public Health (MPH) from University of Illinois at Chicago.
He is inspired by leaders in global health, environmental sustainability, and food security, and aspires to represent and advocate for veterinarians, their profession, and the animals they look after in the policymaking process.
