Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program tracking tool developed

February 2012

By Gina Luke, assistant director of the AVMA GRD

Individuals who participate in a federal government program known as the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLFP) have an easier way to track eligible employment. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has developed a new tracking tool, the Employment Certification for Public Service Loan Forgiveness form that will keep track of a borrower's progress toward meeting the eligibility requirements necessary. The PSLFP is designed to help those who have been considered eligible to have remaining student loan debt forgiven after ten years of public service work.

The loan servicer, FedLoan Servicing, manages the PSLFP for the Department of Education. FedLoan works with the borrowers on the certification form along with providing them information that will help them track of qualifying employment and qualifying payments on Direct Loans.

More information on the program and the steps needed to participate in the program is available at the Department of Education's Student Aid website at http://www.studentaid.ed.gov/publicservice.
