AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee Meets in Washington DC

The AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee (LAC) met on April 10-11 to discuss new legislation that impacts animal health and welfare and the veterinary profession. The committee reviewed twenty-seven pieces of legislation along with AVMA Council/Committee input on the legislation. Recommendations will be sent to the June 2012 Executive Board Meeting.
The LAC also heard updates from staff about the current status of AVMA's legislative agenda, Congressional Advocacy Network, AVMA Political Action Committee, AVMA Fellowship and Externship programs, and AVMA GRD Communications efforts.
As part of their visit to Washington, DC, LAC members met with their congressional offices to discuss Fiscal Year 2013 Appropriations issues and the Fairness to Pet Owners Act.
