Formal title: Docket Number [E9-22868] Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force

Notice of availability, "Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force"

Brief Description:

As a result of the President's June 12, 2009 memorandum to the heads of Executive Departments and Agencies, the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, led by the Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality developed recommendations that include: (1) A national policy for the oceans, our coasts, and the Great Lakes; (2) a United States framework for policy coordination of efforts to improve stewardship of the oceans, our coasts, and the Great Lakes; and (3) an implementation strategy that identifies and prioritizes a set of objectives the United States should pursue to meet the objectives of a national policy.

AVMA Response:

The AVMA recognizes and strongly agrees with the key components of the report, including the need for science based environmental stewardship practices, agency and organizational transparency, and stakeholder collaboration. However, the AVMA does not believe that enough time was allotted for the Task Force to accurately and scientifically complete the vastly comprehensive evaluations required in order to produce optimal recommendations without bias. The AVMA has also been the lead organization embracing and promoting the One Health Concept, which is grounded in the need for collaborative efforts by multiple disciplines with the goal of optimal health of people, animals, and the environment.
