Biographical Sketch

I was raised as a dairy and hog farmer in central Ohio where I learned the values of honest hard work. After graduation from the Ohio State University, I learned the value of involvement in and working with a very large organization by serving in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corp. Those life experiences brought me to central California where I established a companion animal practice in Carmel, California and where I continue practicing today.

Community service and organized veterinary medicine activities consume a majority of my time beyond maintaining a practice. My local volunteerism incudes youth organizations for the disabled and education organizations for the gifted. In our practice we have taught classes to over 1,000 students from grades K1 to 12 about animal care and veterinary medicine.

I have been involved in veterinary association activities since being President of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine Student Chapter. The Monterey Bay Area Veterinary Medical Association was my next association involvement serving as President for five years. From there I joined the Board of Governors of the California Veterinary Medical Association. While on the Board I served in all the elected offices and was eventually President of the Association. I continue to be active in the CVMA where I have served as Treasurer for the past 16 years as well as being on the Executive Committee. I also am a Board Member and Treasurer of the CVMA’s Veterinary Insurance Services Company (VISC) and Board Member and Treasurer of the CVMA’s Foundation.

For the AVMA, I have been a member of the House of Delegates for the past 18 years and where I served on the House Advisory Committee for six years. I also served on the AVMA PAC Policy Board for six years and was Chair for 3 years. Also, for six years I served on the Legislative Advisory Committee. With the AVMA Foundation I served for nine years and was treasurer.

I sincerely thank the California Veterinary Medical Association for awarding me the Distinguished Life Membership Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award. And to the AVMA for the Russell H. Anthony Award and the Ohio State University for the Alumni Recognition Award.

The family farm remains a part of my life and continues to be productive with multiple crops harvested in the central Ohio community.
