Biographical Sketch

Dr. Douglas G. Aspros has practiced small animal medicine in New York State since his 1975 graduation from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He is a partner at Bond Animal Hospital in White Plains, N.Y. and Pound Ridge Veterinary Center in Pound Ridge, N.Y. He has been the managing partner of the Veterinary Emergency Group in White Plains since its inception in 1988.

Dr. Aspros has served the profession in a number of roles at the AVMA. He was the District 1 representative on the AVMA Executive Board from 2006-2010 and spent two years as the AVMA Executive Board vice chair. Committed to veterinary education, Dr. Aspros served six years on the AVMA Council on Education (COE), which included serving as the council's chair. He represented the COE on the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners from 2001-2006. 

In 1985, Dr. Aspros was the first veterinarian in New York to be appointed president of a county board of health in Westchester County. He has served as county board of health president since 1994, directing initiatives on both emerging threats and core public health programs.

He is also active in local and state veterinary organizations. In New York State Veterinary Medical Society (NYSVMS), Dr. Aspros has served as president, treasurer, two-term board member, and committee chair. He is also an active member of the Westchester-Rockland VMA, where he was president and served for eight years as their representative to the NYSVMS board.

In addition, he has served on Cornell's College Advisory Board and the Cornell Council. He also chaired an education-focused meeting of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe.

Dr. Aspros has received a number of professional awards for his service. He received the National Association of Local Boards of Health Award in 2004. The NYSVMS honored him as 2000 Veterinarian of the Year. He was honored as Northeast Region Practitioner of the Year in 1999 by the American Animal Hospital Association.

Dr. Aspros lives in Pound Ridge, New York with his wife, Dee, their Norfolk terriers, and an African Grey parrot named Gracie.
