Dr. V. Hugh Price Jr. is director of animal resources at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, LA where he is also professor of molecular and cellular physiology and professor of emergency medicine.Dr. Price received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, in 1969. In 1980, he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge, La. Prior to his teaching career at LSU, which spans from 1984 to the present day, Dr. Price was a National Institute of Health Post Doctoral Fellow from 1981 to 1984 at the University of Missouri.Dr. Price served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974, when he was honorably discharged. His military career continued as he served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 141st Med Det (VC), in Columbia, Mo., from 1982-1984. From 1984 to 2007, Dr. Price served at the U.S. Reserve as a Laboratory Animal Veterinary Officer at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute for Chemical Defense at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2007.Dr. Price has also been active in veterinary medical associations. He served as the president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA) from 1999-2000, and as a member of the LVMA Board of Directors from 1995-2001. Prior to becoming a member of the AVMA Executive Board, Dr. Price served as the alternate delegate from the LVMA to the AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) from 2001 to 2005, as delegate from the LVMA to the HOD from 2005 to 2009, and served on the House Advisory Committee from 2006 to 2009.Dr. Price also served as president of the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) in 2004-2005 and was a member of the AALAS Board of Trustees from 1999-2006.Dr. Price is active in his community as a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of Southland Home Health Care from 1993 to present. He also served as a member of the Caddo Parrish Animal Control Advisory Board from 1987 to 1997.
