Update your email to vote electronically

​We rely on email to notify members about the nomination process for elections and to inform you when you are eligible to vote in AVMA elections. Make sure you have an up-to-date email address in your member profile to ensure that we can reach you when there is an election for which you are eligible.

Nominations are being sought for candidates for election to the AVMA Board of Directors representing District 7 and District 9, whose current directors’ terms will expire in 2018. District 7 includes the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. District 9 includes Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Utah.

District directors elected to the Board of Directors serve six-year terms. Terms for the new directors for Districts 7 and 9 will begin during July 2018 and end in 2024.

Candidates may be nominated by principal veterinary organizations of a state within the district or by petition of 50 AVMA voting members residing within the district.  Nominees must live in the district they seek to represent and must have been active members of the AVMA for at least five consecutive years immediately prior to the election.

Nominations are due Feb. 1, 2018, and voting will be conducted March 1-31, 2018.

Electronic voting for contested elections

The AVMA uses electronic voting for contested association elections in order to ease, expedite and enhance members' voting experience. The AVMA uses the services of an electronic voting company to allow members to cast ballots electronically, rather than by surface mail.

When members vote electronically, the following process is followed:

  • An email message is sent to all eligible voters, providing instructions and a link to a secure voting website. The email is sent from the address AVMAelection@avma.org.
  • When members click on the link to vote, they are directed to a secure website where their identity and eligibility for voting are authenticated before they are allowed to vote.
  • The website includes links to information about the candidates in the election, as well as instructions for voting.
  • Members make their ballot selections and cast ballots electronically on the website, without any additional steps required.
  • Safeguards are in place to prohibit multiple voting.

Eligible members who do not have valid email addresses on file with the AVMA are mailed paper ballots, along with a return envelope, and must fill out and return the ballots manually. We encourage all members to check the contact information in their AVMA profile to ensure that the email address on file is a valid one.​
