Learn, grow & evolve your leadership journey at VLC

Are you interested in developing your leadership skills or getting more involved with the AVMA or other veterinary organizations? Would you like to connect with others who want to make a difference in our profession? The AVMA’s annual Veterinary Leadership Conference will take place January 10-13 and is the perfect place to get started.

The Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) is open to all veterinary professionals, no matter what stage you’re at in your career or whether you’ve had prior leadership experience. Join other aspiring and current veterinary leaders at VLC to become more engaged in our profession, learn about the AVMA’s diverse work and the people who do it, and take the next step in your career and leadership journey.

Here’s what you can expect from the four-day event:

  • Unique workshops and interactive CE focused on leadership and team-building
  • Conference tracks customized for veterinarians at every career stage
  • Opportunities to meet and network with leaders from a wide range of organizations representing all aspects of the veterinary profession
  • An inside look at how the AVMA works and the many exciting ways you can get involved

Workshops will focus on six leadership themes and principles: Culture & Purpose; Collective Leadership; Network of Teams; People First; Experiment & Adapt; and Radical Transparency. Attendees can earn up to eight hours of continuing education (CE).

New this year, the AVMA’s Public Policy Symposium is being held in conjunction with the Veterinary Leadership Conference on Thursday, January 10. This daylong event brings together veterinary association executives and leaders from across the country to discuss pressing public policy issues. For VLC attendees, this brings a wealth of opportunities to meet and network with these current leaders, learn about their work, and discover opportunities to get involved in public policy.

Specialized education for every attendee

Whether you consider yourself a seasoned leader or you’re just beginning to explore what a leadership role in the veterinary profession might mean for you, the Veterinary Leadership Conference is the meeting for you. This year, we're looking forward to welcoming even more AVMA members, with three specialized content tracks:

  • Rising Leaders – for attendees who have little or no prior leadership experience
  • Experienced Leaders – for those who have served or currently are serving in leadership roles and want to grow their skills
  • Presiding Leaders – for those currently serving in high-ranking volunteer or staff positions and looking to perfect their skills

VLC scholarships opening soon

As in years past, scholarships will be available to help rising leaders and veterinarians from traditionally underrepresented groups attend the Veterinary Leadership Conference. Scholarship details and applications will be available soon, and we’ll notify you here on the AVMA@Work blog when that happens. In the meantime, visit avma.org/VLC to learn more about the Veterinary Leadership Conference and secure your spot to attend.
