Animal welfare

Animal welfare generates a great deal of interest and excitement in the general public, and no other profession is more crucial to the science of animal welfare than veterinary medicine. The AVMA works hard to keep veterinarians and journalists abreast on all relevant issues in animal welfare—whether they be scientific, ethical or public policy. The Animal Welfare Committee and Division at the AVMA are constantly identifying, prioritizing, and studying animal welfare issues to help veterinarians, farmers, animal lovers, and the general public understand this important and increasingly popular school of thought. No article about animal welfare is truly ready for publication without first consulting the AVMA and the association's veterinary leaders and online resources.
