Dr. Chester L. "Chet" Rawson begins six-year term on AVMA Executive Board
Schaumburg, IL — Dr. Chester L. "Chet" Rawson of Markesan, Wis., is the new District VI director on the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Executive Board, representing Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
"I am committed to supporting the veterinary profession and especially the members in my district and their concerns," says Dr. Rawson. "Through my service on the AVMA Executive Board, I hope to bring special attention to the areas of animal welfare, animal husbandry and livestock animal agriculture, while working to improve the relevance, value and credibility of veterinary medicine to pet owners, livestock producers and our society."
Dr. Rawson was elected to replace Dr. John R. Scamahorn of Greencastle, Ind., whose term expired this month.
Dr. Rawson is a 1968 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded diplomate status from the American College of Theriogenologists in 1980. Following graduation from veterinary school, he worked as a general practitioner serving northwest Illinois and southwest Wisconsin for over 30 years. In 2002, he took a position with Alta Genetics in technical services and training as a field fertility specialist.
Dr. Rawson served on the AVMA's Animal Agriculture Liaison Committee from 1996-2011 and in the AVMA House of Delegates from 2003-2011 as the alternate delegate representing the Society for Theriogenology.
He is an active member of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA), serving as the WVMA president in 1999. Dr. Rawson served on the Executive Board of the Society for Theriogenology's from 1985-1988 and as president in 1989-1990. Dr. Rawson served on the American College of Theriogenologists Executive Board from 1985-1988 and as the college's president in 1994-1995.
Dr. Rawson is married to Janet M. Specht. They have two children, Michelle and Max. Their daughter, Michelle, is married to Kelley Drake, and the couple has three sons – Brody, Bennett and Nathan. Their son, Max, and his wife Kelly have a daughter, Olivia.
