New session format to provide more audience interaction at AVMA Convention
Schaumburg, Illinois — Responding to requests for more opportunities to interact during convention sessions, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) will be debuting new "Inside the Issues" sessions at this year's AVMA Convention, developed to spark collegial dialog about important and controversial issues facing the profession.
Dr. Clarence Rawlings, companion animal section manager of AVMA's Convention Management and Program Committee, said the new program will start out small with 10 sessions in 2011, but, with the help of attendee feedback, will become a larger and more integrated program format at the 2012 AVMA Convention in San Diego.
"Surveys showed people want more than to sit and listen to lectures; they want more of an opportunity for interactions," Dr. Rawlings said. "We took topics that we thought veterinarians and their staff would want to be discussed. Many of these are controversial, and many of them are ones that concern us about where the profession is headed."
"Inside the Issues" sessions will be presented in three formats: better case management, debates and panel dialogues. While the formats differ slightly, they will all allow attendees to participate in the debate or discussion.
