AVMA 20/20 Commission issues plan to prepare for year 2020
Schaumburg, IL — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is offering a roadmap for the next decade of veterinarian medicine by making the AVMA 20/20 Vision Commission's report available to its members and the public.
The report lays out goals and strategies in 11 areas pertinent to veterinary medicine including social responsibility, global outreach, diversity, and financial stability for the profession. It has been formally received by members of the AVMA Executive Board and is now available on the web for comment.
"With the AVMA entering an unprecedented era of change, it is essential to have a new vision and roadmap to ensure that the association is relevant and responsive to its members and the public over the next decade," explains Dr. Lonnie King, dean of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, who chaired the commission.
The report is available online and comments are welcomed on the AVMA's online communities—the NOAH (members only) and AVMA@Work. There will also be programs scheduled to discuss the 20/20 report during the AVMA Convention in St. Louis, Mo., July 16-19.
"The AVMA 20/20 Commission is a major component of our strategic initiatives. Input from our members is an important element of this process," says Dr. Larry Kornegay, president of the AVMA.
