America's Veterinarians Headed to Seattle for Summer Convention
Annual meeting draws nation's veterinary experts, leadership Schaumburg, IL — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is holding its annual convention in Seattle this July, bringing thousands of attendees to the Emerald City to attend educational seminars on veterinary medicine and assist in recovery efforts, as well as participate in the more traditional tourist activities that the region has to offer.
This year's convention, held July 11-14, is expected to break attendance records set two years ago in Washington, D.C., which drew more than 10,000 attendees, including more than 4,600 veterinarians and veterinary students, and 1,500 exhibitors.
Before the convention begins, 200 convention attendees will help to rehabilitate local animal shelters in need of repair or renovations.
The Washington State Convention and Trade Center will be packed with story ideas, interviews and photo opportunities. Veterinary experts from around the world will be in attendance to discuss hot topics such as food safety, animal welfare, avian influenza, trends in pet ownership and health, and advances in veterinary medicine, to name a few.
AVMA leadership will be on hand for the association's House of Delegates meetings, and several prominent figures in the AVMA, including incoming president Dr. Larry Corry and executive vice president Dr. Ron DeHaven, will be available for interviews. In the exhibit hall, companies and organizations of all sizes will highlight the latest in veterinary technology, educational materials, and products for pets and their owners.
Entertainment highlights include a performance by Grammy-Award nominated Natasha Bedingfield, who has been called the UK's biggest female pop star, and stand-up comedy from John Pinette, a nationally known comedian who has appeared regularly on The Tonight Show and The View.
