Learn What's Hot in New Orleans at the 145th AVMA Annual Convention

— Perhaps nothing else in recent history has depicted just how completely intertwined people, animals and the environment are as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) explores this interdependency and celebrates the rebirth of New Orleans at their 145th Annual Convention July 19-23, 2008. Visit the AVMA Online Media Kit at www.avmaconventionmedia.org to learn more about these hot topics and others:

  • Food safety and new methods of preventing food recalls and reducing E.coli 0157H7 outbreaks before they reach the public;
  • Preserving the Human/Animal bond through the introduction of a new international children's educational dog bite prevention program;
  • An international program highlighting one medicine and the global interaction among veterinarians, physicians, biologists and other scientists to ensure public, animal health and the environment are protected;
  • A unique symposium on behavior problems and how they can be prevented or treated before frustrated pet owners abandon their companions to shelters.

In addition to these topics, there are more light-hearted subjects such as, "Cats are the Rodney Dangerfield of Pets: Why our Feline Friends Get No Respect" and more serious discussions based on today's headlines such as public health issues in the face of a disaster, assessing potential toxic substances and issuing a recall, and "Animal Welfare Principles, Practices, and Public Opinion." Visit www.avmaconventionmedia.org for a look at highlights of this truly global meeting.
