Dr. Larry G. Dee and Dr. Thomas F. Meyer Join AVMA Executive Board
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) will install two new AVMA Executive Board members at its annual convention in New Orleans on July 23—Dr. Larry G. Dee of Hollywood, Fla., elected to represent District IV, and Dr. Thomas F. Meyer of Vancouver, Wash., elected to represent District XI.
Dr. Dee ran unchallenged for the AVMA Executive Board seat, and his term will run from 2008-2014. He succeeds Dr. Larry Corry representing Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico.
Dr. Dee is a co-owner of a companion-animal hospital in Hollywood, Fla. He is a 1969 graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine, and has been an adjunct faculty member in the University of Florida Department of Medical Sciences since 1983. He is also an alternate delegate for Florida to the AVMA House of Delegates. Dr. Dee is a former president of the American Animal Hospital Association and immediate past president of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association.
"After many years serving a variety of roles in organized veterinary medicine, I am delighted to have been elected to the AVMA Executive Board and am looking forward to serving in that capacity," Dr. Dee said. "I have been especially touched by the offers of future assistance from current and past board members, and by the congratulatory remarks and kind words from my friends in the AVMA House of Delegates."
Dr. Meyer ran unchallenged for District XI Executive Board seat. His term will run from 2008-2014. He succeeds Dr. Richard Coon for the district that comprises Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.
Dr. Meyer is co-owner with his wife, Dr. Jean Meyer, of a mixed-animal practice in Vancouver, Wash. He established the animal hospital in 1979, a year after his graduation from Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Meyer was chair of the AVMA House Advisory Committee in 2002-2003, and served on the committee from 1999 to 2007. He has been on the House of Delegates as a delegate or alternative delegate since 1995, and was president of the Washington State Veterinary Medial Association in 1988 as well as its Veterinarian of the Year in 2004.
"It's an exciting time to be a part of the AVMA and the Executive Board. One of the most important things that the Executive Board must do is prepare the AVMA for the next generation," said Dr. Meyer. "In the past I have served as chairman of the House Advisory Committee so I do have a good working understanding of how the AVMA is structured and organized and I hope that will help me serve our members. I think it's really a privilege to represent the members of the AVMA, and particularly my district."
