AVMA and Banfield Charitable Trust Honor "Future Vets"

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The strains of "Pomp and Circumstance" filled the air as more than 75 pint-sized "Future Vets" decked in white lab coats took the stage to receive a stethoscope and honorary diploma. Children between the ages of 5 to 14 years-old from around the country participated in a three-hour interactive educational program at the North American Veterinary Conference on Sunday, January 20 in Orlando, FL.
"FutureVet Camp was designed to educate and entertain youth about a career in veterinary medicine," said Dr. Gregory S. Hammer, President of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The children participated in a variety of presentations geared to their specific age level and discovered the art and science that is veterinary medicine.
FutureVet is an educational partnership program between the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Banfield Charitable Trust that provides toolkits for use in the classroom and with community youth groups. Toolkits are available for Elementary School grades K-5, Middle School grades 6-8, High School grades 9-12 and College Undergraduates.
