2009 AVMA Annual Convention Media Qualifications and Guidelines

The American Veterinary Medical Association is delighted to invite the media to attend its 2009 convention in Seattle. The AVMA Convention is closed to the general public, but it is the association's policy to make its annual convention open to the journalists to encourage media coverage and understanding of the important field of veterinary medicine. Registration is free of charge for members of the media providing editorial coverage at the convention. Those media in attendance must meet a few standard criteria to be accepted for registration.

Media Qualifications: You must be employed by a news or industry publication, syndicated service, publisher or broadcaster or be freelance and on assignment for a magazine, newspaper, television or radio station or publisher. The AVMA accepts writers for print or web-based publications covering news, veterinary medicine, pets, animals, public health, wildlife and agriculture, along with other fields related to veterinary medicine; broadcasters and photojournalists; and authors of books on veterinary medicine, pets and animals or other related fields.

All members of the media teams must be registered through the AVMA Media Relations Department. The AVMA asks that you submit a business card or media credentials be submitted by mail following your registration form (.rtf). For more information, contact Michael San Filippo, AVMA media relations assistant, at 847-285-6687 (office), 847-732-6194 (cell), or msanfilippo@avma.org.

Media Access: Broadcasters and photographers should contact the onsite AVMA Press Office before going on the convention floor, to labs, press conferences or other meetings. Access in most instances will be granted, as the AVMA Convention is open to press coverage. Journalists seeking to conduct an interview or multiple interviews with attendees, speakers, AVMA officials and others at the convention should also work through the AVMA Media Relations Department or through the onsite AVMA Press Office.

For More Information: Please contact Michael San Filippo, AVMA media relations assistant, at 847-285-6687 (office), 847-732-6194 (cell), or msanfilippo@avma.org.
