2009 AVMA Annual Convention FAQs

When and where is the 2009 AVMA Convention?
The convention will be held July 11-14 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, 800 Convention Pl., Seattle, Wash., 98101. Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.

What will the event cost?
The convention is free and open to members of the media.

How do I register?
Complete the registration form (.rtf) or contact Michael San Filippo, AVMA media relations assistant, at 847-285-6687 (office), 847-732-6194 (cell), or msanfilippo@avma.org.

How can I get lodging in Seattle during this event?
The AVMA provides all convention attendees, including members of the media, with discount room rates at 11 Seattle hotels. Journalists can register for housing after completing the convention registration process.

When completing your registration form (.rtf), indicate if you will be requiring lodging. Once the form has been accepted by the AVMA Media Relations Department, you will be given your registration number. This registration number can be used to register for a hotel room online. Select the "Attendee Registration and Housing" tab to make your hotel accommodations. You will need your registration identification number and last name to access your registration record.

How will I get around the city during the event?
Free shuttle service will be provided by the AVMA for convention attendees staying at hotels located outside of walking distance to the convention center.

In addition, Seattle has an excellent Metro Transit System including free bus service from the convention center to the waterfront throughout the downtown area. For complete information visit their Web site at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/.

Can I get into all the convention meetings and events with my media pass?
With an AVMA convention media pass, journalists can get into all educational seminars, meetings, and ceremonies, as well as business meetings of the AVMA, but please reserve a space in each program and event you plan to attend through the AVMA Media Center. The pass also gets members of the media onto the showroom floor.

How do I set up an interview with AVMA members or officials?
Interviews can be set up by contacting a member of the AVMA Media Relations Department prior to the event, or by visiting the AVMA Convention Media Center during the convention.

What kind of services and help can I expect to receive at the AVMA Media Center?
The AVMA Media Center provides journalists and other members of the media with access to the convention and media passes and a myriad of other services. All members of the media should check in at the Media Center upon arrival at the convention. At the Media Center, AVMA staff can assist journalists in attending meetings and setting up interviews, and also finding space for to conduct television/radio interviews. The Media Center will also offer regular press release updates from AVMA staff and also from exhibitors at the conventions, computers and internet access, a fax and copy machine, and also food and refreshments.
