The governing body of the AVMA, comprised of delegates from 68 state and allied associations, will meet twice while in New Orleans for the convention.

Voluntourism Project

2008 convention attendees in New Orleans participated in a two-day "voluntourism" project to refurbish four local animal shelters. The project was such a success the foundation plans to continue the program each year in the convention host-city. "Voluntourism" offers attendees and their families the opportunity to put the Veterinarian's Oath in action by combining tourism with volunteerism.
AVMA Town Hall Meeting

This year's convention will feature its inaugural town hall meeting—bringing together a broad cross section of veterinarians to discuss the critical questions and challenges facing the veterinary profession.

President's Installation Luncheon

Dr. Larry R. Corry will be installed as the 129th president of the AVMA.
Scientific Programs: More than 1,000 hours of continuing education (eg, small and large animal medicine, laboratory animal, research, public health, regulatory, avian medicine, companion and food animal), wet labs, brown bag lunchtime sessions, sunrise CE sessions and poster presentations are available to veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Exhibits: Hundreds of exhibits featuring the latest in veterinary technology, educational materials, and the hottest new products for pets and their people.
Allied Meetings: More than 100 allied associations and other groups will meet during the convention.
About the AVMA: Established in 1863, the AVMA consists of more than 75,000 members, comprising more than 85 percent of all veterinarians in the United States.
