Wal-Mart has announced that its store-brand milk now comes from cows that have not received recombinant bovine somatotropin.
Sam's Club, the Wal-Mart members-only warehouse club, also is offering milk only from suppliers that have pledged not to treat cows with rBST.
According to the announcement, Wal-Mart heeded the desires of its customers in switching to rBST-free milk. The announcement did make note of a statement from the Food and Drug Administration that milk from cows receiving rBST poses no risk to human health.
Kroger grocery stores and Starbucks coffee shops are among a number of other retailers that also have converted to rBST-free milk recently.
