Support for military veterinarians on AVMA agenda

Veterinarians serving in the U.S. military may have more pay incentives in the future if AVMA legislative efforts are successful.

The AVMA Executive Board authorized the AVMA to actively pursue the development, passage, and funding of legislation that would increase pay incentives for veterinarians serving in the military. The military services offer several pay incentives to attract and retain health professionals; however, fewer and less generous incentives are offered to veterinarians than to other health professionals. Currently, there are only two special pays for military veterinarians compared with five for Medical Corps officers, and four for Dental Corps officers.
