AVMA seeks advisory role in film

The AVMA will seek to provide technical advise during the production of a proposed 70mm IMAX-format motion picture about canines titled "Woof!"

The Council on Public Relations' original recommendation was for the AVMA to partner with Woof LLC, Seeing Eye Inc., and American Kennel Club by providing $60,000 to help produce the film.

While the board recognized the film's educational and entertainment values, they were reluctant to spend the funds.

As a compromise, AVMA President Jack O. Walther offered an amendment to the recommendation that the AVMA offer technical advice instead, which the board approved.

"In effect, we are making a nonfinancial contribution by providing the AVMA's good name," said AVMA Vice President Thomas R. Kendall.
