AVMA position statements relating to tetanus immunization of horses and aquaculture medications were rescinded by the Executive Board on the recommendations of the Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents.

The AVMA House of Delegates adopted the policy on immunizing horses against tetanus in 1975.

The council believes the statement still to be accurate. But they thought it beyond the scope of the AVMA's guidance on vaccination via its Principles on Vaccination and delegation of species-specific information to species veterinary organization.

The Executive Board approved the aquaculture medications statement in 1991. It supported expanding the extra-label drug use policy to allow the incorporation of drugs into fish feed on a veterinary prescription basis.

The statement is contrary to the Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification Act, which prohibits extra-label use of drugs in feed.
