Fall meeting extended for veterinary technician committee

The Executive Board approved reinstating an extra day to the annual fall meeting of the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities, effective in 2005, at a cost of $3,440, and annually thereafter.

In April 2001, the board authorized the expansion of the fall committee meeting by one day, providing a 3.5-day fall meeting.

The additional day allowed time to review the 88 accredited programs in veterinary technology and for a half-day meeting with representatives of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America and the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators. In 2002, the additional day was discontinued for budgetary purposes.

The committee now accredits 108 programs and anticipates 12 new programs by fall of 2005.

In its recommendation to reinstate the additional meeting day, the committee explained the day would allow the time needed to thoroughly review accreditation issues and other information regarding veterinary technician education and activities and to reconvene the valuable dialogue between the NAVTA and AVTE.
