Policy emphasizes public health education

The AVMA Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine believes that continuing education in public health and regulatory veterinary medicine is possibly even more important now than when the AVMA first adopted a resolution on its importance, in 1979.

The need for continuing education is demonstrated by the increasing threats of emerging zoonotic diseases and of intentional and unintentional introduction of foreign animal diseases.

The council thus recommended, and the Executive Board approved, reaffirming the following policy.

Continuing Education (CE) in Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine

State and local associations, colleges, and departments of veterinary science should include in their CE programs more subjects on public health and regulatory veterinary medicine.
