International movement of exotic wildlife

Because of the increasing threat to human and animal health associated with the movement of wild animals, the Executive Board has approved the expansion of a policy statement regarding interstate translocation of wildlife, to include the international movement of wildlife. The revised policy is now called "The Importation and Interstate Movement of Exotic and Native Wildlife."

The revised policy states that consideration should be given to all potential impacts from the movement of wildlife, such as genetics, parasites, and pathogens. It also advocates for veterinary supervision when extralabel use of drugs is necessary for movement of wildlife.

The Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine recommended the changes.
