AVMA to produce annual report

At its November meeting, the Executive Board approved production of an annual report, beginning in 2004. The project will undergo a sunset review in three years.

"We have a great story to tell our membership, in writing," said Dr. Joe M. Howell, president of the AVMA.

The 16-page report, which will cost $39,500 to prepare and send, will be distributed in late spring of each year. It will help relay the activities and accomplishments of the Association. The report will include the audited financial report, membership information, the previous year's convention and plans for the upcoming year's event, and reports on meetings, symposiums, conferences, and other activities.

While members are the primary intended audience, the report will promote the profession and the Association to other groups, including sponsors and advertisers.

"We're recognizing the importance of communication within our profession, and I can see where this could be a real advantage to us," said Dr. Roger K. Mahr, District VI. "It's important that our membership see what the leadership's vision is for the profession."

The Council on Public Relations, which recommended publishing the report, believes that it will serve to reinforce professional unity within the veterinary profession. By highlighting its accomplishments, the AVMA can illustrate its position as a strong, vibrant, vital organization, working tirelessly and effectively on behalf of the profession and for the health and welfare of the public.
