Dr. Warwick A. Arden

Dr. Warwick A. Arden, previously dean of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, became provost and executive vice chancellor of NC State in early December.

The provost is the university's chief academic officer. Dr. Arden has served as interim provost at NC State since May 2009. Among his accomplishments, he has helped lead university budget planning and the ongoing strategic planning process.

"Dr. Arden is a very accomplished scholar and educator and will provide tremendous leadership as we build on NC State's rich tradition in academic excellence," said Randy Woodson, PhD, chancellor of NC State.

In 2004, Dr. Arden became dean of the veterinary college at NC State. He helped establish the Animal Welfare, Ethics, and Public Policy Program; the Center for Comparative Medicine and Translational Research; and a joint degree program with the College of Management. He was the 2009-2010 president of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges.

Dr. Arden previously headed the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. He has held faculty positions at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. A native of Australia, he earned his veterinary degree from the University of Sydney, in 1982.

Dr. David G. Bristol is acting as interim dean of the NC State veterinary college.
