Ford appointed brigadier general of US Air Force Reserve

Dr. Richard Ford

Dr. Richard Ford, professor of small animal internal medicine, North Carolina State University, was also promoted to brigadier general of the US Air Force Reserve, April 3. Dr. Ford is the only Veterinary Corps officer in the Department of Defense to hold the general officer rank.

Assigned to the headquarters US Air Force, Office of the Air Force Surgeon General, Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, DC, Brig Gen Ford facilitates formulation of plans, policy, and programs pertaining to the Air Force medical service.

When he was on active duty, Brig Gen Ford was chief of Veterinary Services, Kadena Air Base, Japan. He served in the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve. From 1991-1997, he was commander of the 916th Medical Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
