The shortage of food supply veterinarians is a key component of two pieces of legislation that top the AVMA's 110th Congress legislative agenda—the National Veterinary Medical Service Act and the Veterinary Public Health Workforce Expansion Act. Dr. DeHaven and Dr. Gregory S. Hammer, AVMA president, testified in favor of the bills, each in a separate congressional hearing earlier this year.
